Mini Math Lessons That Work
Mini-lessons take place between a child and a parent and play a critical role in our mission to reform math by building children’s confidence and competence.
Mini-lessons provide a brief (5 to 15 minutes) but critical opportunity for parents to reinforce the cultivation of confidence and competence by listening, trying to follow students’ thinking, and encouraging their struggles and triumphs in math learning.
Remember, 7 to 11-year-old children develop physically and cognitively at incredibly different rates. Our task is to respect these differences and encourage them to maximize their mastery of the fundamentals of mathematics.
We will continue post videos that provide parents with additional insights into supporting their child’s learning journey.
Side note: The parent, classroom teacher, or online interventionist should vary the difficulty of the math activity so students can alternate between learning new concepts at a higher level and working at a still higher level of rigor, where they struggle constructively to understand a more challenging task.
Our mini-lessons will be available for our Summer School program in June 2026. Please register to be notified when this program is available in June.
